Iran Will Not Take Place of Russia for Gas Supplier

Hassan Rouhani, the President of Iran said to Rossiya 1 that Iran would not prepare for taking place of Russia to become the most important gas supplier for Europe, even sanctions on Iran had been abolished.
 
A source of EU stated that EU was improving the urgency of plan that imported gas from Iran quietly. Because of relationships with Iran are getting better while relationships with Russia, the largest gas supplier for Europe are deteriorating.
 
“Our production is quite backward. For that, we should take domestic consumption into consideration at first.” Rouhani said when he was interviewed by Rossiya 1. Iran is the second largest global gas reserves, only next to Russia.
 
“As is known to all that we may have problems in winter. We have various purchasers. Our neighbors in the east, west and south want to buy gas from us. Both of them are waiting for our production.” he said.
 
At present, Russia is the largest gas supplier for Europe. Every year, Russian gas can meet three quarter of gas demand in Europe which is worth for 80 billion dollars. Due to Ukrainian situation, EU carried out sanctions to Russia. For that, EU improved necessity that imported gas from other countries.
 
“Nowadays, our situations are not as good as people think. People consider that if Russia stops gas supply, Iran can supply gas immediately. That is untrue.” Rouhani said, “In fact, our output is still far from meeting demands.”
 
Iran needs amount of pipe infrastructures. It has spent a large number of time persuading to build a particular pipe to connect large South Pars gas field with European consumers, also called as Persia gas pipe.
